Prayer Corner - Psalm 62:1-2

Posted on Sept 01, 2010

"Only God can save me, and I calmly wait for him. God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe and the fortress where I am secure."

It is said that crowding a life does not always enrich it. However the world continues to stress the importance of achieving more, doing more and being more. But we may find ourselves trapped in a never-ending cycle of activity, and our days whisk by in blurs of meals, meetings and menial tasks.

These responsibilities are often small, however when they are combined day after day, they can lead to stress and burnout. When this happens we must take two steps of action.

  1. Find time to be still before the Lord and rest in Him. In a beautiful scene from the Gospel of Mark 6:31, Jesus told His disciples, "Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while." Resting in God renews our souls and quiets our racing minds, enabling us to gain His strength.
  2. We should frequently ask ourselves, "Are the activities in my life all necessary and chosen by God. In Psalm 46:10 it commands: "Cease striving and know that I am God." Essentially God wants us to slow down and realise that our lives are in His hands. With this assurance we can replace striving with resting and trusting. No matter what we do in life, it should be done to the glory of God.

This week, create a quiet moment to sit before the Lord and allow Him to provide the strength and rest you need. And while you are doing this ask him to reveal to you any areas in your ministry and in your life in which you are striving needlessly.
