John 17:1 "After Jesus had finished speaking to his disciples, he looked up toward heaven and prayed: Father, the time has come for you to bring glory to your Son, in order that he may bring glory to you."
Jesus was longing for more of His heavenly Father. He was basically saying: "Father, I've had the glory of the son of God since before the foundation of the world. Now I want you to add to it the glory that I've earned as the 'Son of Man'. Jesus heart cry was for more glory; that God would give him more. And we should have the same heart cry for more glory - more of Jesus!
As Christians we will never be completely satisfied until we see Jesus face to face. He is the answer to our shortcomings in life and we will constantly need revival afresh from heaven.
We need to keep refocusing on the person of Christ - to hunger for more of Him. We need to go deeper in our personal walk, because when we love Him more, then we are going to love people around us more, we are going to serve Him more wholeheartedly and consistently, and everything else will fall into place.
As professional Christians it can be so easy for us to rely on formulas, programs, and agendas more than on Christ himself. Maybe our hearts have become dry deserts that are weary from lack of holy precipitation. Jesus once said to the church at Sardis, "You have a reputation for being alive, but you're dead." Revelation 3:1
If this is the case in your life, you are not alone. Thankfully he offers a way back to Him. We are told in the Word that if we 'draw near to Him He will draw near to us'. James 4:8 Brothers and sisters, God has drawn near to us in the person of Jesus, and His Word is the revelation of Himself in Christ.
Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
Our heavenly Father waits for us to approach His throne through prayer; ... He may direct us in ways that surprise us, but they will be for our good and His glory. As we pray on our knees this week may it remind us that God is the Master and that we are His servants?
