Prayer Corner - Lord I trust in you; let me never be disgraced

Posted on Aug 10, 2010

"Lord I trust in you; let me never be disgraced.

  • Save me
  • Listen to me
  • Save me quickly
  • Be my Rock of protection
  • You are my Rock and my protection

"For the good of your name;"

  • Lead me & guide me
  • Set me free from the trap they set for me

"I give you my life! Save me lord, God of truth!"

And in verse 24 he says: "All you who put your hope in the Lord be strong and brave."

This is a Psalm of David to the Chief Musician. David is in much grief but he appeals to God for help with a lot of confidence and consequently, he finds himself strengthened and is able to magnify the Lord for His 'great goodness'.

This Psalm starts off in a valley of mourning but it rises to the hills of confidence. Notice in verses:

  1. 1-6, he expresses gratitude for mercies received.
  2. 7-8, he describes his case.
  3. 9-13, he pleads for deliverance.
  4. 14-18, he confidently and thankfully expects a blessing.
  5. 19-22, he shows the bearing of this case on the people of God.

"Lord I trust in you let me never be disgraced."

We like David have a refuge, and in the time of storm need to cast out our anchor of faith in the Lord our God. We need to pray:

"Let me never be disgraced."

Brothers and sisters, God will not let us be put to shame if we depend on Him alone – the God of truth and grace. Trust in God brings consolation and assistance.

In verse 2 David says, "Bow down your ear to me."

In essence he is saying to God, "Lord can you come down to my lowly estate and listen to me?"

David understood that God always has regard to the weakest moanings of His poorest people, because he says, "Deliver me speedily." We need to understand that we can ask for swift and sure mercy from God. We should not set times or seasons for God's mercies; if they came late they may be too late. David in His prayer is deeply earnest and we need to be likewise.

In verse 3 he acknowledges that God is his 'Rock & Protection.' He expresses full confidence in God. Reliance on God in times of adversity is a principal method of glorifying God. Active service is good, but passive confidence of faith is not what God wants from us. He wants our hearts fixed in firm and un-staggering belief in Him. We like David need to be able to say with confidence:

"For you are my ROCK & MY FORTRESS."

Then in verse 5 David says:

"Into Your hand I commit my spirit."

These words of David were our Lord's dying words. They are good, choice and solemn words and may I suggest that they can be used now as well as when we are taking our last breath. A good man or woman's solicitude in life and death is not in the body or estate but in their 'spirit.' This is our great jewel; our secret treasure. If this is safe then all will be well with us.

You, brothers and sisters, are a 'Pearl' bought with a great price! All things are safe in Jehovah's hand. What is entrusted to the Lord will be secure, both now and in the day of reckoning.

This week, recommit yourselves into the Hand of God.
