North New Zealand Conference Executive Committee - March & April 2010

Our conference is on a mission to build godly leaders, who grow healthy Adventist churches that serve the world. Our vision is to see many more Spirit led believers sharing Jesus in their communities.

This report outlines key items from the Executive Committee March and April meetings.

Highlights: * Debriefing reports of Big Camp 2010 were received. Big Camp, with the theme 'Created to Life to the Fullest' was an overall success with careful notes made of areas for improvement. * 38 new members were added to the Levin church from and independent Samoan congregation. * The very first 'Simple Church' [Adventist House Church with a missions focus) for our conference started in West Auckland in March. * A number of Easter Conventions were held by the Polynesian churches including a successful one by the Cook Islands members that took place in Tokoroa with more than 800 in attendance. * The Ministers Meetings were held at Rotorua church with spouses in attendance. A camp for the children was run at Tui Ridge Park.

Concerns: There are a number of independent groups and ministries that are currently operating or have just begun throughout the conference. A statement will be sent out in June, 2010 regarding these groups.

Staff: Linda Chrysaffis has joined the Women's Ministries department, part-time, to coordinate for North New Zealand. Verity Dixon has replaced Kerryn McCutcheon as Administrator for the Health department. Kylie Ward, Director of Children's and Women's Ministries, has taken on an additional role of Ministerial Association Representative for Women in Ministry. Rosalie McFarlane (former Principal South Auckland School) is currently serving as the Acting Director for Education.

Conference Direction: The first third of each Executive Committee meeting is dedicated to the mission of the conference. This time of discussion, reporting, planning and prayer is focused on the vision of seeing healthy Adventist churches right throughout the conference. Pr Ed Gallagher, Senior Pastor for Healthy Adventist Churches, is leading the conference initiative to grow current and new healthy congregations. A new venture called Simple Church has seen Ed working closely with Graeme and Ailsa Ure from west Auckland on an Adventist missional house church. This fully evangelistic endeavour began in February and promises to be the beginning of a new era of church in New Zealand for the Adventist church.

The committee spent a full day in May looking at the next three to five years of the conference. These strategic discussions examined the effectiveness of how the conference is building the kingdom of God. Key areas for focus were identified. This planning process will continue with much prayer for the three months.

Finance: A draft of the audited conference 2009 financial statements was available at the most recent meeting. Though tithes did not increase over that period there was a significant increase in offerings given. Our Secretary-Treasurer, Russell Jones expressed his appreciation for the hard work put in by our church treasurers and for the faithfulness of our church members. The committee was pleased to note that an additional $750,000 had been appropriated to churches for assistance with the purchase of property and the building churches.

Adventist Book Centre: The Executive Committee received Mr Cameron James resignation as Manager of the Adventist Book Centre. We ask that you join us in prayer for Cameron's health. A replacement has not been appointed at this time.

Big Camp: The date for the next Big Camp has been set for December 30, 2011 – January 08, 2012.
