North New Zealand Conference
Ministry Profile: Cameron James
Ministry: Manager, Adventist Book Center
Cameron James joined the ABC as Sales Supervisor in Dec 2001 and eventually became the Manager. Coming from a back ground in Motor Vehicle Sales and Finance, Cameron fit into the role quite naturally.
Hailing from a family where he is the only Adventist, Cameron mentions that church didn't always hold the importance in his life as it does today. He drifted in and out of church but kept connected through his Adventist friends, until one day, he finally realized that Church was where he wanted to be.
In accepting the position at the ABC, Cameron implemented changes that really worked for the ABC. He was instrumental in expanding the range of books that the ABC carried in stock. His passion was to put books into the hands of people that needed them. He absolutely loved the satisfaction that came from walking through the store with customers who were unsure about what they needed, who in the end walked away with a purchase that suited them perfectly. He was also instrumental in introducing Gaither music to the Adventist Community in New Zealand, to the extent that the ABC at one point was the largest retailer of Gaither Music products through all of Australasia.
Cameron was diagnosed with a brain tumor five years ago and was put on medications to manage the tumor. The aggravated side effects of the medication were seizures, whose occurrence grew more frequent during the course of 2009. Due to concerns for his health and safety, Cameron resigned as Manager of the ABC in December last year.
Cameron says that he is filled with a sense of peace in knowing that no matter what happens, God has him in the palm of His hand. And that no matter what he goes through; he believes that God will fulfill His purpose in his life. His desire is that his faith in Jesus will bring his family which consists of his mother, father and brother into a relationship with God.
Cameron spends his days gardening and resting. His favorite pastime is watching his collection of Gaither DVD's. He would love nothing more than to get better and work at the ABC again, but says that he trusts that God knows best.
Cameron's faith truly is an inspiration. We at the conference continue to keep him in our prayers and would like to request each of you to do the same.
