Adults - Des Cummins & Dick Duerksen


Des Cummins, Jr Ph.D.

President, Florida Hospital Foundation
Executive Vice President of Florida Hospital and Florida Division of Adventist Health System

Dr Cummings holds a Ph.D. degree from Andrews University in Leadership and Management with an emphasis in statistical forecasting. Dr Cummings also holds a Masters of Divinity and is an ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. During his career, he has been a pastor, college chaplain, University professor and hospital president.

In his present role, Des gives leadership to the mission, planning, marketing, new businesses and foundations for the 17 Adventist Health System hospitals in Florida.

Des is committed to advancing the healing ministry of Christ in the 21st century through health and healing strategies that treat the mind, body and spirit. Motivated by this vision, Dr Cummings gave leadership to the development of Celebration Health, a showcase hospital in the Disney City of Celebration, Florida. It has been recognized as the "hospital of the future" by the Wall Street Journal.

Celebration Health was founded on "Creation Health", the eight principles of health from the 7 days of creation. Dr Cummings coauthored a book entitled, Creation Health: God's guide to Health and Harmony; which articulates these principles for healthy living. This philosophy has been adopted by the Adventist Health System as the core component to its vision for the future of healthcare.

Dr Cummings is the author of Original Love, a book where he shares how to experience Peace, Meaning and Harmony through Sabbath Rest. He has coauthored 2 other books and written numerous articles.
Dr Cummings is committed to the growth and well being of the Central Florida community through his active community involvement.. He is the inaugural Chair of the Central Florida Partnership; and Chair of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce. He is on the board of the Conventions and Visitors Bureau and has served on the boards of the Ronald McDonald House and Lifeworks Leadership.

Des and his wife, Mary Lou live in Celebration, Fl and have been married 43 years. They are blessed with 2 children, Tracy Beaulieu, an oncology nurse in Seattle, WA and Derek, Director of Planned Communities and Municipalities at Smart City Telecommunications. They are proud grandparents of Kelsey, 7 and DJ, 4. They are actively involved in the Celebration Seventh-day Adventist Church, which started as a small group in their family room six years ago.

 

Dick Duerksen

Dick Duerksen is Assistant to the President of Maranatha Volunteeers International where he uses words and photos to tell the story of God's Grace.

Dick has worked within the Seventh-day Adventist church as a pastor, administrator, editor, planner and consultant for creative ministry. He also has spent nine years leading Florida Hospital's focus on the mission of "Extending the healing ministry of Christ."

In his Maranatha responsibilities, Dick hosts a weekly television show, Maranatha Mission Stories, and authors a variety of articles and stories for the organization. Additionally, Dick and his wife Brenda work as "storycatchers" while traveling to Maranatha project sites around the world. Brenda's skills as a registered nurse, health educator, and experienced "Mom" help enhance the health impact of Maranatha's projects.

As a writer and photographer, Dick also authors a regular feature article for the Lake Union Herald, and provides weekly screensavers and "environmental impact" photographs for a variety of hospitals, magazines and spiritual displays.

Brenda and Dick are celebrating 40 years of marriage and enjoy spending time with the families of their three children-Jeremy and Suzanne in Colorado; Julene and Rouru - and Chuckie, Griffyn, and Gwen in New Zealand; and Joy in Southern California.


Youth - James Black & Jean-Noel Adeline


James L. Black, Sr.

Pastor James Black is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He is a graduate of Oakwood College with a Major in Theology and a Minor in Biblical Languages. He also attended the Andrews University Theological Seminary in Berrien Springs, MI.

Pastor Black began his ministry in the Southwest Region Conference where he served as youth pastor and senior pastor.  He served as conference youth director from 1991-2000. His responsibilities included teens, young adults, pathfinders, adventurers, singles, NSO and camp ministries. During this same period he served as a member of the NAD Youth Committee and Secretary for the NAD Pathfinder Committee. He also served 4 years as president of the Black Adventist Youth Directors Association. This group is responsible for planning a United Youth Congress every four years and has drawn over 30,000 youth.

Currently he is serving his second term as the Director of Youth Ministries for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America.  Many youth initiatives have been launched and training resources developed under his leadership.  He organizes one of the largest bi-annual leadership training conventions in the world church with over 3000 leaders attending from around North America and the world.  However, God has given him a vision to go deeper with today’s youth.  In April 2009, the 2nd NAD World Youth Prayer Congress will convene in Columbus, Ohio.  Over 15,000 youth and young adults will worship through prayer and mission service under the theme “Just Claim It”.  He is convinced that it is time for Adventist Youth to claim their entire cities for Christ.

Pastor Black is married to Maxine and they have 3 grown children; James Jr., Raquel (husband William & daughter Elyse), and Stefani. (They are the real youth department).  He enjoys fishing, golfing, biking, boating, horses, camping and motorcycles.

Pastor Black lives to show young people that JESUS truly is the WAY. His favorite quote: “The quality of your preparation will determine the quality of your performance”.

 

Jean-Noel Adeline

Jean-Noel Adeline was born in Mauritius and grew up in the Seychelles. He is married to Chantal from Canada who is of Seychelles' origin. They have two sons, Joshua and Elikiel who were born in New Caledonia.

He obtained a B.Ed in Science from the University of Sussex in England, but later took up Theology and has obtained a Master of Divinity from Andrews University in 2002.
He presently serves as the Director for Church Development & Stewardship in the NZPUC/NNZC/ SNZC.

Jean-Noel's passion is to bring as many people into a saving relationship with Jesus, so that their lives may be daily transformed to the glory of the Lord.

Through his God-given passion, the Lord has led him to hold revivals and evangelistic series in over 37 countries. He is indeed a dynamic and inspirational speaker that you do not want to miss.


Teens


Murray Hunter

Pastor Murray Hunter is a born and bred Australian. Much of his childhood years were spent in and around Sydney and the central coast of New South Wales. Murray attended the local public school for his Primary years before moving on to do high school at Avondale.

Pastor Murray began his working career as a builder and guitar teacher. This he did for a number of years before enrolling at Avondale College where he eventually completed a Degree in Teaching. He served as a School Principal for 13 years before becoming the Youth Director of the South Queensland Conference in Australia, a position he held for 8 years. Most recently he has returned to the school environment and is currently serving as Senior Chaplain at Northpine Christian College located in Brisbane, Queensland.

Pastor Murray has been happily married to his wife Linda for 21 years. They have 3 children; Courtney (currently studying teaching at Avondale College), Alyse (a Senior at Northpine) and Justin (also a Senior at Northpine).

Pastor Murray loves; Bible study, surfing, soccer, music and spending time with his family.
Over the last 22 years of his ministry Pastor Murray has continually been committed to leading young people closer to Jesus Christ, and dedicated to having the “Mind of the Master be the Master of his Mind.”


Juniors


Lillian & Matthew Panozzo

Lilian and Matthew reside in Adelaide, South Australia. They have been married for 2 years and both enjoy their huge role in ministry around Adelaide. God has placed a huge burden on both of their hearts for sharing Christ with young people in a passionate and creative way.

Having milked cows, built cars and cared for the elderly, Matthew is now a literature evangelist. He enjoys meeting people in the community and has some great stories to tell. Ask about his canine adventures! Matthew is also a fan of megalodons and has a newfound love for lizards.

Lilian has entered full time ministry after studying theology at Avondale. She had always dreamed of becoming a librarian but tried illustration and teaching before discovering chaplaincy in schools at God's direction. Lilian loves potatoes, collecting T-shirts and would most willingly spend days at a time with her nose in a book.


Primary


Daron Pratt

Daron is currently the Director of Children's Ministries and Sabbath School for the North New South Wales Conference in Australia.

He comes from a family of six children, five of whom are church employed. His other brother works for Telstra but they love him anyway! He is married to Lisa and has two children Andrew and Maddison.

During his 16 years of ministry, Daron has developed a passion for Children's Ministries and is enthusiastic about reaching children, both in and outside the church. Daron has also appeared around the world as the "Balloon Man" on the Arnie's Shack series via satellite television and is an award winning balloon artist.
