Big Camp 2008 Evaluation

The information below is a summary of the comments received on evaluation sheets handed out to campers.

Registration

  • *Two different checks. People who have paid who do not need changes. People who need to pay and make changes. Security guards to inform you which line to go into.
  • ***Faster registration more computers
  • Strict enforcement of the no bikes policy
  • Registration for cabins – suggestion that those with children to go together and the elderly together for noise control
  • Tents with youth to be kept in one area to curb noise
  • Light growth at the rear of the dorms need cutting (Fire Hazard)
  • *Registration packs to include maps of the area indicating walk trails, activity sites
  • Rules regarding the use of bikes – many changes causing confusion

Tui Ridge

  • **Internet access needed
  • Safety features at water slides ‘OSH’ standards
  • *Meals Fresh vegetables and far less cheeses.  New guidelines put out by government/our health message.
  • Selection on Menus for gluten free/dairy
  • Investigate Telecom phone lines for eftpos
  • Clearer Sign posts – To Water Slide, To Ropes Activities

Shop

  • ******Separate from ABC, regular hours, continual variety supply

ABC

  • **Lengthy queues need more tellers
  • ***Working eftpos machines in ABC using different phone lines which caused the delays
  • **Book Specials very disorganized very disappointing

Seniors

  • ****Meetings for 30 – 35 not youth/not seniors
  • ***Adults need to join in on activities as well. Flying fox, water slide etc
  • Transport for Older people to and from meetings
  • *Missed special music more variety - church groups/soloists etc
  • Speakers at the back of auditorium

Youth

  • *Guest speaker appreciated
  • Meetings to finish earlier
  • *No final meeting on Saturday night – Youth headed off into town to movies

Teens

  • Music not appropriate/not acceptable

Primary

  • ***Not to happy about collecting children whilst Senior program was still running
  • With speaker just starting his talk in Youth tent – children needed collecting

Kindergarten

  • Need to be on ground level as parents had to leave babies in prams at the bottom to collect children

Administration

  • Last meeting to be more mission orientated/concert
  • *Low powered FM radio station for announcements and camp news – communication
  • Extra area for seminar meetings as there was a clash with the teen’s program, therefore cancelling the seminar
  • Sabbath offering collections need to be the same for both Sabbaths
  • Evening meetings to start earlier which could eliminate late café times
  • Cost adjustments unpowered sites
  • Sanitarium products little available to purchase. Need bulk supplies for out of towners.
  • Credit card options for offerings
  • Big Camp T-Shirts for Sale
  • *Camp expensive for some families
  • Forget Conference presentation at the end of camp
  • Big camp to be run every year as decided at the session
  • *Camp to run every year
  • Family camp at Easter
  • Fees excessive not happy with attendance fees, daily fees okay
  • SHF – handing out free stuff should be advertised in tent talk
  • Proof reading tent talk service offered by J.E.C Anderson
  • Intercom for emergency

Security

  • ***From 10pm to take their roles seriously against noise
  • Vehicles – enforce no vehicle on camp sites
  • Improve security

Food Caravans

  • *****Burgers, Hot dogs, chips and pies
  • **Hamilton SDA Church kitchen missed

Sanitarium

  • *Missed the sidewalk cafe’ open all day for juice and hot drinks

Cabins

  • *Need ramps for wheelchairs and mobility scooters not steps
  • Only one electric stove which takes an hour to heat up element ?
  • *The possibility of having a washing machine and laundry sink on the side of one fridge
  • Slim Cupboard with Broom. Bucket, Mop, Brush & Shovel, vacuum cleaner, ironing board to keep unit clean
  • *Tea towel hanger on the wall between fridges and microwaves
  • Two way switch’s near bathroom door to turn out cabin light
  • Lino lifting in the kitchen living area of the Fantail cabin
  • Charge a bond ensuring cabins are left clean

Dorms

  • Ladders in the rooms have only three steps painted in High gloss – awkward and dangerous not good for over 60’s okay for children

Emergency

  • Provide emergency warning (Fire Alarm) at buildings with alarm points in strategic areas and hydrant supply throughout camp areas


Workshops

  • Need for afternoons (e.g) Sound and Video, Projectors, Screens and power point
  • **Cooking demonstrations needed and Health meetings
  • Need practical seminars (Cooking, Budgeting)
  • Health Outreach – manned tent handouts or Sanitarium with Demonstrations/Health Talks for afternoon programs. Community Health Education program (old V.C.D) and the great write ups in our manual could be the basis of each program me.
  • Parenting workshops

Grounds

  • Ground level at Northern end of main building needs looking at over time the bottom of the colour steel Plinth will rust out

Sabbath Observance

  • **Laundry closed for Sabbath no observance
  • Collecting Rubbish
  • Taking down Youth Tent on Saturday afternoon

Employees

  • Most employees start their duties early and ended late (e.g.) 10pm– no family time

Pathfinder

  • *Lost Pathfinder wilderness camping area

Prayer Tent

  • Have signs indicating what tent

Mix and Mingle Tent

  • People in this tent at 3.30am – some sitting, some lying on the floor
